About

Over the course of human history, numerous tactics, techniques, procedures and technologies have been developed and fine-tuned to deter, detect, delay and respond to security threats.

The Security Museum is dedicated to that history, and to promoting a wider understanding about the role and purpose of protective security, both historically and today.

Why?

The security profession has an interesting and diverse history of men and women who have contributed to society through a shared mission of protecting others from harm. The purpose of The Security Museum is to educate others about the intriguing history of the security profession and help to inspire the next generation of security professionals.

The Museum Collection

The Security Museum is currently ‘virtual-only‘, but the aim is to establish permanent physical premises in the future.

The Collection spans many hundreds of years, with artefacts from around the world, though predominantly Europe and North America. Artefacts include secure locking mechanisms and keys, historical prints, interesting safe components, door security devices, tools used by security officers, alarm, surveillance and communications technologies, and other items used to protect assets.

Scope

The topic of security is broad and can encompass everything from a lock on a door to the survival of a nation. The Security Museum looks mainly at the protective security ‘profession’ – how different activities, including tactics, techniques, processes, methodologies and ‘tools of the trade’ have developed. As such, The Security Museum looks predominantly at physical and personnel security.
